Phone Calls not from Zimmermann

We have become aware that someone is using an automated call service to contact local voters and a recorded message makes false claims about our opponent in the race for District 48, Peter Nehr.

We would like to make it perfectly clear that these calls are not coming from Carl Zimmerman or anyone else with the Zimmermann campaign.

Furthermore, we find these actions despicable, and an embarrassment to the entire election process. We vehemently denounce these tactics.

The perpetrators of this deceptive practice have even managed to make it look as if the calls are coming directly from Carl Zimmermann and his wife’s personal phone number.

We are attempting to find out the source of these phone calls, and fully expect to get to the bottom of this. You can be assured that we will take the appropriate action.

Update on the automated calling the day before the election.
We received one call that thought we were saying negative things about Nehr and that led Carl to believe that was the message going out. However, after talking to over 100 people that received the calls it appears that they were repeated hangup robocalls with no message. The calls showed Carl’s personal cell phone on the caller ID, leaving people with the impression that Carl’s campaign was rudely and recklessly interrupting their day.

As a result, many people said they weren’t voting for Carl. In addition to the calls answered by Carl, hundreds or thousands never got answered. Who knows how many votes were lost by this tactic?

Refuting the Smears

Carl Zimmermann does NOT want a state income tax!

Contrary to recent television commercials and mailers sent out by Peter Nehr and the Republican Party of Florida that accuse Carl of supporting an income tax, Carl Zimmermann absolutely does not endorse or support such ideas.

Weaving the lie, Nehr bases his attacks on a question that was asked to Carl in June of this year. The question was posed to Carl was if he would support swapping all sales tax and property tax for a “progressive income tax”.

Carl’s response was: “is that the latest wacky idea?” People may recall that the members of the state Legislature had recently (at the time) proposed abolishing property taxes and replacing them with a much larger state sales tax. Carl, in the interview in question, went on to say that while an income tax is a progressive tax and the other taxes are regressive taxes, all the money in the world would not get more than 30% of the voters to approve it — a fact that would kill any and all tax measures at the polls. Carl went on to declare the need for the state to concentrate on solving problems now.

Peter Nehr’s accusations distort the facts and warp the context in effort to make sure voters don’t notice his lack of answer to the questions district residents face.
