Help out where, when and how you can

With the success of Friday’s campaign kickoff event at the Zone Lounge, the Zimmermann campaign is officially underway once again. We’re looking for help collecting petition signatures to get Carl on the ballot next year.
We’ll be making petitions available for download shortly. If you’d like to get involved with collecting petitions out in public around District 48, please get in touch with us so we can coordinate with you.

We’d also like to announce that we are now taking online donations. We appreciate any financial contribution you can make to the campaign.

volunteer election day!

On election day we need volunteers at voting precincts around district 48, holding Carl Zimmermann campaign signs and waving to voters from 7 am - 9 am and again at 5 pm - 7 pm. If volunteers would be willing to stay longer, that would be outstanding.  If you’d like to participate, please contact Ann McDowell at 727-939-4800 or drop us a line through our web site.

With thanks to the Pinellas County Young Democrats, Carl now has a public profile available on MySpace.com

Be a part of the Team Z effort

After the long, drawn out primary season and a two week breather post-primary in District 48, everyone on the Zimmermann campaign team are running full speed ahead now as we enter the heart of the campaign.

The following is a detailed volunteer request from Campaign Manager Ann McDowell. If you can spare some time in the days and weeks to come, here’s your opportunity to help out:

Every weekend from now until November 5th we are going to caravan through parts of district 48 to canvass and get name-exposure using two vans and a car with Zimmermann signage on them. We need volunteers to walk and ride with us. These can be really fun afternoon events where you can meet like minded neighbors and fellow supporters.

We will meet at Zimmermann Campaign headquarters at noon. Please contact Mark at 475-0603 or me at 475-0604 if you can join us. Campaign headquarters is located at 37578 US Hwy 19 N in Palm Harbor. It is on the west side of the highway in Palm Plaza across the street from the Best Western Palm Harbor Hotel (formerly Four Points Sheraton). There are Z campaign signs and U-haul trailers in the parking lot.

Sometime midweek this week, we will need folks to help stuff 4,700 envelopes with literature to absentee ballot recipients. The mailer will consist of a cover letter, Carl’s report card brochure, and a reprint of the article that appeared in the St. Petersburg Times on Sunday. If you can help, please call the office at 939-4800 (we will answer Insurance Recruiters of Tampa Bay but it is “the office”) or contact me directly by email.

Also, in the next several weeks we expect to have the names and phone numbers of voters in the district that we need to begin calling (Democrats only to begin). We need people who are willing to make calls.

If you’ve been waiting for opportunities to get involved — now is the time.

on the level

One of the most frustrating things to watch during the campaign season was reading reports on the fundraising efforts of the Republican hopefuls in the District 48 race. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were being split between the likes of Peter Nehr, Ken Peluso, Brian Flaherty and Robin Borland.

Yet after a rough and tumble primary where four candidates were vying for one ballot slot, those massive war-chests have been depleted and the playing field has been leveled. You can see for yourself on the state fundraising reporting page for Peter Nehr and Carl Zimmermann (simply click on the “campaign Finance Activity” buttons at the bottom of each page). The cash-on-hand for both candidates is just below $8600 as of this writing. This makes financial donations to Carl’s campaign vital right now because they give him the ability to continue competitiveness with Commissioner Nehr in the financial arena.

Make no bones about it, Carl has an excellent shot to win on November 7th. Dissatisfaction with and among Republicans are leading more and more to to voice their support for Carl and his campaign. It takes more than dissatisfied voter base and financial donations for a candidate to win though. It takes the hard work of volunteers and supporters to help get-out-the-vote. We’re close to launching a Campaign Canvassing Caravan and will give more details soon.
